The Labour Party in Anambra State has concluded its primary elections to select candidates for senatorial and House of Representatives seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the exercise was peaceful, transparent and widely participated in by members, delegates, aspirants and key stakeholders.

In a statement issued in Awka on Thursday, the Anambra State Chairman of the Labour Party, Peter Okoye, said the primaries were conducted through the Option A4 voting system, which allowed members to openly indicate their preferred aspirants.

Okoye said the process demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, grassroots participation and credible candidate selection.

He added that all nominated candidates had been duly affirmed by delegates and party members during a special nomination congress conducted in line with the party’s constitution, electoral regulations and internal guidelines.

The chairman assured the candidates of the full backing of the party leadership and members, stressing that the Labour Party would work collectively to secure victory in the 2027 elections.

Among the candidates announced were Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Ikenna Okafor for Nnewi North/Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Mrs Ifeoma Obiokoye for Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency, and Ujunwa Onyekachi for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Returning Officer, Mr Iduma-Christian Mayor, said the candidates emerged as sole aspirants of the party in their respective constituencies.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present to observe the exercise.

Speaking after his emergence, Ikezue thanked INEC for monitoring the process and promised to focus on tackling erosion, empowering constituents and promoting inclusive representation if elected in 2027.
