Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC, Alleges Marginalisation
Iyabo Obasanjo has resigned from APC, citing marginalisation, exclusion and unfair treatment in Ogun State politics following disputed governorship primaries and lack of response to her supporters’ demands by leadership.
Former Ogun Central senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress, citing sustained marginalisation, rejection and unfair treatment by the party leadership in Ogun State.
In her resignation letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun APC chairman, she said her decision followed what she described as repeated exclusion from key party processes and disregard for her contributions.
Obasanjo, who recently sought the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State, criticised the consensus arrangement that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s candidate, insisting she was not consulted before his emergence.
She alleged that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue of the candidate’s unveiling and were intimidated during the process.
Despite her grievances, she said she accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity and congratulated Adeola after his emergence.
However, she added that subsequent engagements with party stakeholders yielded no response to concerns raised by her supporters, even after assurances were made.
Obasanjo said the pattern of neglect and lack of communication reinforced her belief that she was no longer valued within the party structure, leading to her resignation.
She expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and APC stakeholders for the opportunities and support she received during her time in the party.
