‘Itch’ to Return to Premier League Is Gone — Kane

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has revealed that his desire to return to the Premier League and break Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record has diminished since leaving England for Germany.

The England captain joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 after scoring 213 Premier League goals, leaving him 47 goals short of Shearer’s record of 260.

Kane initially expected to return to England at some point in his career to pursue the record. However, his successful spell in Germany has changed his perspective.

Speaking to reporters, Kane admitted that the desire he once had to return to the Premier League was no longer as strong.

“When I first left, for sure it was something I thought, I would definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” Kane said, according to BBC Sport.

The 33-year-old striker has enjoyed a prolific period at Bayern, scoring consistently for both club and country. He finished last season with 73 goals, further strengthening his reputation as one of Europe’s leading forwards.

Kane is entering the final 12 months of his four-year contract with the German champions and is expected to hold discussions with the club over a possible extension.

After receiving the Golden Shoe for finishing as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer, Kane spoke positively about his life in Munich and his experience playing outside England.

“I am extremely happy here in Munich,” he said.

He explained that his move to Germany had broadened his perspective on football and increased his appreciation for European competition.

“It opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England and it has made me appreciate European football even more,” Kane added.

The England captain also pointed to Bayern’s squad, manager and his family’s adjustment to life in Munich as major reasons for his satisfaction.

“I just think the team we have here and the manager, my family is really settled here, it is just about being in the best place possible,” he said.

Despite his comments, Kane stopped short of completely ruling out a future return to England.

“Never say never, but for now I am concentrating on Bayern Munich and we will see what the future holds,” he added.

Kane’s comments suggest that, for now, surpassing Shearer’s Premier League record is no longer a priority, with the striker increasingly focused on extending his success with Bayern Munich.
