Israel and Hezbollah Implement Tenders for Fragile Truce in Lebanon
Brokered by American and Qatari diplomats alongside Iranian channels, Israel and Hezbollah committed to a localized ceasefire on Friday afternoon starting at 4:00 PM.
Following a severe spike in cross-border combat that pushed a broader U.S.-Iranian interim peace initiative to its absolute limits, Israel and the Iran-backed political and military group Hezbollah reached a fresh ceasefire agreement on Friday.
According to senior diplomatic sources from the United States, the cessation of hostilities was officially slated to take effect at 4:00 PM local time (1300 GMT).
The diplomatic arrangement, managed through intense backchannel negotiations, was put together by mediators representing the United States and Qatar, with crucial diplomatic assistance from Tehran. This development materialized after Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah indicated that Iran had notified the faction that ongoing strategic talks with Washington would remain frozen unless a blanket, comprehensive halt to military actions was instituted.
