I Have No Hand in Adelabu’s Sister’s Kidnapping — Senator Alli
Senator Sharafadeen Alli denied involvement in the kidnapping of Adebayo Adelabu’s sister, describing the allegations as false and politically motivated. He urged security agencies to investigate the claims.
The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, has denied allegations linking him to the abduction of Mrs Olaide Adegoke, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Alli, who is also the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Oyo State, described reports circulating on social media as false, malicious, and politically motivated.
The denial was contained in a statement issued by his media office and published on his X account on Sunday.
Mrs Adegoke was kidnapped alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, on June 3, 2026, while driving them to school in Ibadan. The gunmen reportedly intercepted her vehicle in the Elewura area and took the family hostage before they were rescued during a security operation on Saturday.
Reacting to reports attempting to connect him with the incident, Alli said the allegations lacked credibility and were based on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect currently under investigation.
According to the statement, there is no evidence linking the senator to the kidnapping or any criminal activity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to kidnapping or violence,” the statement read.
The lawmaker’s office also dismissed attempts to associate campaign materials and stickers with the crime, describing such claims as part of a deliberate effort by political opponents to damage his reputation.
The statement noted that no security agency had established any connection between Alli and the kidnapping, arguing that the allegations were aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary political tension.
Alli further condemned kidnapping and other forms of criminality, reiterating his support for measures aimed at improving security and protecting lives and property in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
He urged members of the public to disregard what he described as false narratives and avoid spreading unverified information capable of undermining ongoing investigations.
The senator also called on security agencies to investigate the source of the allegations and ensure that those responsible for spreading false information are brought to justice.
