Governor Makinde Signs Stringent Executive Order to Boost Oyo Security
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026, introducing strict vehicle registration laws and enhanced traffic monitoring to combat kidnappings and urban crime across the state.
In a direct policy response to mounting public concerns over urban insecurity and transport-related crimes, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026 into law. The comprehensive legal instrument is specifically engineered to radically strengthen internal security, enforce long-neglected vehicle registration regulations, and implement a highly disciplined traffic management framework across all major cities and rural communities within the state. The governor’s office confirmed that the deployment of this executive power became absolutely paramount following a sharp rise in sophisticated criminal operations, most notably highlighted by the recent traumatic abduction of school teachers and young pupils within the Oriire Local Government Area.
Under the strict provisions of the new executive order, state security agencies and traffic management authorities have been granted sweeping powers to impound any vehicle operating without legitimate, verifiable license plates or utilizing unauthorized tinted glass windows. Furthermore, the law establishes a mandatory, centralized database for all commercial transport operators, making it incredibly difficult for criminal syndicates to disguise unregistered vehicles as public taxis to execute kidnappings. Speaking during the signing ceremony at the State Secretariat in Ibadan, Governor Makinde emphasized that his administration would show absolute zero tolerance toward any individual or group violating these directives, asserting that public safety cannot be compromised for personal convenience.
