Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has officially installed a former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Alaku, as the new Aren Eggon, the paramount ruler of the Eggon people.
The historic installation, which drew dignitaries from across the state and beyond, marked a significant milestone in the rich cultural heritage of the Eggon ethnic nationality, one of the largest ethnic groups in Nasarawa State.
Governor Sule, while presenting the staff of office and instrument of appointment to the new monarch, charged him to be a unifying figure and use his wealth of experience to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development in Eggon land.
The Governor expressed confidence that the new Aren Eggon, given his distinguished career on the bench, would bring wisdom, fairness, and sound judgment to the revered traditional stool.
"Today, we are not just installing a traditional ruler; we are entrusting the destiny of the Eggon people into the hands of a man of proven integrity, knowledge, and experience," Governor Sule said.
"As a former Chief Judge, Justice Alaku understands the importance of justice, fairness, and equity. I have no doubt that he will bring these qualities to bear in administering the affairs of his people."
The Governor urged the new monarch to work closely with other traditional rulers, community leaders, and government at all levels to sustain the relative peace in the area and attract more development to the region.
He also called on the Eggon people to rally round their new leader, offer him their support and cooperation, and join hands with the government in building a more prosperous and peaceful Nasarawa State.
Responding, the new Aren Eggon, Justice Suleiman Alaku, expressed profound gratitude to God, the Governor, and the people of Eggon for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to be a father to all, irrespective of religious, political, or ethnic affiliations, and promised to dedicate his reign to the promotion of peace, unity, and the overall progress of his people.
"I am humbled by this honour and the trust placed in me. I pledge to serve my people diligently, to be fair to all, and to use every resource at my disposal to advance the cause of peace, unity, and development in Eggon land," the new monarch assured.
The colourful event was attended by top government functionaries, members of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, religious leaders, politicians, sons and daughters of Eggon land, and well-wishers from across the country.
