Former Unilorin Vice-Chancellor AbdulGaniyu Ambali Dies at 68
Former University of Ilorin Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has died at 68 after a brief illness, prompting tributes for his contributions to education and university administration.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has died at the age of 68.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole, in a statement issued through the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.
According to the statement, Ambali, who served as the ninth Vice-Chancellor of the university between 2012 and 2017, passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness.
Egbewole described the late academic as a distinguished administrator and scholar whose contributions significantly impacted the growth and development of the University of Ilorin.
He noted that Ambali’s death represents a major loss not only to the university community but also to Kwara State University, where he served as Pro-Chancellor until his passing.
During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor, Ambali was credited with promoting academic excellence, institutional stability and infrastructural development within the University of Ilorin. His leadership helped strengthen the institution’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
The university management expressed condolences to his family, colleagues, associates and the entire academic community, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Ambali’s death has attracted tributes from members of the academic community who remembered him for his commitment to education, research and university administration.
