FIFA Earns Record $15bn as Spain Pocket $50m World Cup Prize

FIFA generated a record $15 billion in revenue from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, comfortably exceeding its initial projection of $11 billion, while champions Spain received a record $50 million in prize money after defeating Argentina in the final. The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, became the most lucrative World Cup in history, driven by expanded participation, commercial partnerships, broadcasting rights, hospitality packages and ticket sales.

Spain secured the $50 million winners' prize after beating Argentina 1-0 after extra time at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal. Argentina, as runners-up, earned $33 million, while the overall prize pool for participating teams reached a record $655 million, reflecting FIFA's increased financial rewards for the expanded 48-team tournament.

According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the record revenue demonstrates the growing global appeal and commercial strength of the World Cup. Much of the financial growth was attributed to increased sponsorship deals, broadcasting agreements, premium hospitality packages and strong demand for match tickets, despite criticism over soaring prices during the tournament.

The financial success is expected to strengthen FIFA's investment in football development worldwide, with a significant portion of the revenue earmarked for member associations, youth programmes and infrastructure projects. The governing body said the tournament's commercial performance sets a new benchmark ahead of future editions of the World Cup.
