In a major step toward addressing soil degradation and improving crop productivity, the Federal Government has introduced Nigeria's first harmonized fertilizer recommendation manual in over a decade.

The publication, titled Harmonized Fertilizer Recommendations for Nigeria – 2026 Edition, was officially presented to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) in partnership with Farm Input Support Services (FISS). The initiative, which commenced development in early 2025, represents a collaborative effort alongside the Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN), the OCP Group, and the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC).

According to NADF Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibrahim, the manual delivers scientifically validated, region-specific application frameworks tailored directly to Nigeria's diverse soil compositions. By equipping extension workers and smallholders with precise application guidelines, the ministry aims to eliminate input waste, lower production costs, and significantly boost national grain output ahead of the main wet season harvests
