FCT Police Nab Suspect for Allegedly Supplying Ammunition to Terrorists
The FCT Police Command has arrested a suspected ammunition supplier linked to bandits and terrorists, recovering live ammunition and uncovering an alleged logistics network supporting criminal groups.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected supplier of logistics and ammunition to bandits, kidnappers, and terrorist groups operating in parts of the country.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this during a news conference in Abuja on Friday.
According to the police chief, the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list since 2023 and was apprehended following a strategic intelligence-led operation by operatives of the FCT Police Command.
Sanusi said the suspect was intercepted on Tuesday while travelling along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
During the operation, police recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition designed for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG).
The commissioner revealed that the arrest also led to the apprehension of the suspect’s sister, who is alleged to have participated in the supply of ammunition.
According to investigators, the woman is married to another wanted bandit leader currently at large and believed to be operating in parts of Kaduna and Niger states.
Police alleged that preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a wider logistics and ammunition supply network supporting bandit and terrorist groups active in Kaduna, Niger, and neighbouring communities within the FCT.
Sanusi said investigations are ongoing to identify additional members of the network and dismantle its operations.
In a separate operation, the FCT Police Command also arrested two suspects over alleged involvement in “one chance” robbery activities.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit during routine patrols along the Giri-Lugbe Road on May 15.
According to the commissioner, officers responded after a young woman raised an alarm, claiming she had been robbed and abandoned by suspected “one chance” operators.
Police immediately launched a pursuit and intercepted a blue Volkswagen Golf vehicle conveying the suspects.
Items recovered from the vehicle included a laptop, an iPhone, a laptop charger, two knives, and a pair of scissors.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and efforts aimed at reducing violent crime across the Federal Capital Territory.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities, or movements to security agencies.
