El-Rufai's Team Accuses ICPC of Human Rights Violations in Detention

The media team representing the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a fierce public attack against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), accusing the anti-graft agency of flagrantly violating basic human rights by denying their principal access to urgent medical care. In a strongly-worded statement released by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, the legal and communication team revealed that the former governor has been suffering from a severe, painful eye condition characterized by persistent itching and visual distress while inside the detention facility. Despite formal, written requests by his personal physicians detailing the critical need for an immediate hospital visit to prevent permanent ocular damage, ICPC officials reportedly turned down the request, keeping him strictly confined within their cells.

Adekeye characterized the agency's stubborn refusal as a calculated act of state-sponsored cruelty designed to physically break the prominent politician, who has been held in custody over a series of complex administrative and financial investigations related to his tenure in office. The statement emphasized that under both the Nigerian Constitution and international charters on human rights, every detained citizen retains an absolute, non-negotiable right to standard healthcare, regardless of the gravity of the allegations levied against them. As public concern mounts over El-Rufai's health status, his legal defense team has threatened to initiate immediate fundamental human rights enforcement proceedings in court to compel the federal authorities to grant him unconditional access to external medical professionals.
