The Nigeria Police Force has announced a movement restriction in Ekiti State on Saturday for the governorship election, while exempting exam candidates and essential service providers. The measure aims to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible poll.
The Nigeria Police Force has announced a restriction of movement in Ekiti State on Saturday in preparation for the governorship election, while exempting candidates sitting for examinations and other essential service providers.
The restriction, which is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible election, is part of the comprehensive security measures put in place by the police and other security agencies to safeguard the electoral process.
According to the police, the movement restriction will be in force throughout the period of the election to prevent any form of disruption, violence, or breach of peace during the exercise.
However, the Command clarified that the restriction would not apply to candidates writing examinations, accredited election observers, journalists, electoral officials, and other persons rendering essential services on the day of the poll.
The police urged residents of the state to comply fully with the directive, stressing that the measure was designed to protect lives and property and ensure a hitch-free electoral process.
The Command also assured the people of Ekiti State of adequate security throughout the period of the election, warning troublemakers and persons with intentions to disrupt the poll to steer clear or face the full weight of the law.
The police further reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election, assuring voters that they could come out to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or violence.
Security agencies are expected to be deployed across the state to provide adequate coverage and ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
The Command appealed to residents, political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and shun any act capable of disrupting the electoral process or threatening public peace.
It also called on the electorate to cooperate with security personnel and electoral officials, while urging political actors to play by the rules and accept the outcome of the election in good faith.
The Ekiti State governorship election has continued to attract significant attention, with various political parties and candidates intensifying their campaigns ahead of the poll.
The deployment of security personnel and the restriction of movement are part of broader efforts to ensure that the election is free, fair, credible, and devoid of violence or irregularities.
As the election draws near, stakeholders have continued to call for peace, urging all parties to prioritise the interest and welfare of the people of Ekiti State.
The police assured the public that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to guarantee a smooth, peaceful, and successful conduct of the governorship election.
