Ekiti Election 2026: 10 Political Parties Formally Enter Race as INEC Commences Logistics Distribution to Polling Units
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the final distribution of sensitive election materials, including BVAS machines and ballots, to all polling units in Ekiti State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the final, critical phase of its logistical deployment for the Ekiti State governorship election, systematically distributing sensitive voting materials from local government storage hubs directly down to the various polling units across the state. The commencement of the distribution cycle officially sets the stage for a highly anticipated electoral contest featuring candidates from exactly ten political parties.
Under tight security escorts composed of combined police units, military personnel, and paramilitary organizations, the electoral body moved ballot boxes, result sheets, and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines out of centralized hubs early on Saturday morning.
INEC officials in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, confirmed that the early-morning deployment was carefully planned to eliminate past recurring logistical failures, such as the late arrival of personnel and materials at remote voting locations.
The commission noted that all technical teams and ad-hoc staff had been fully embedded within their assigned wards, with instructions to ensure voting commences uniformly across all designated voting points in line with official guidelines.
The election, which serves as a critical barometer for measuring regional political sentiments ahead of upcoming federal cycles, has been narrowed down to 10 cleared political parties after the conclusion of rigorous candidate screening processes.
Political analysts have pointed out that the narrowed ballot has significantly reshaped traditional voting alliances within the state, creating intense pressure on the surviving political machinery to maximize voter turnout in their traditional strongholds.
