DSS Raids Taraba Warehouse, Recovers Donated Relief Materials, Arrests Four

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided a private warehouse in Sintali Ward, Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering relief materials reportedly meant for disaster victims and arresting four suspects in connection with the discovery.

The operation, which followed intelligence reports from concerned residents, uncovered food items and other humanitarian supplies believed to have been donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre for distribution to victims of disasters in the state.

The development was disclosed on Sunday by security and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared on X, citing security sources familiar with the operation.

According to the report, the intelligence was triggered after residents observed suspicious movements of relief materials during the night from government storage facilities to the privately owned warehouse.

Acting on the information, DSS operatives conducted a raid on the facility, where they reportedly recovered food items and relief supplies worth millions of naira.

The recovered materials are believed to have formed part of humanitarian assistance donated through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) for onward distribution to victims affected by disasters across the state.

During the operation, four suspects were arrested, including the owner of the warehouse and three rice traders allegedly linked to the recovered items.

Following the raid, the relief materials were evacuated to the DSS office in Jalingo, where they are being kept as investigations continue.

According to the report, investigators are working to establish whether the relief materials were unlawfully diverted from official government custody or whether they had been temporarily stored at the warehouse for legitimate administrative or logistical reasons.

The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the movement of the humanitarian supplies and identify anyone responsible for any possible diversion.

As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency had not issued any official statement regarding the incident or the status of the recovered materials.

Similarly, the Department of State Services has yet to release an official statement confirming the operation or providing details of the ongoing investigation.

The incident has raised concerns over the management and accountability of humanitarian relief materials intended for vulnerable communities, with observers calling for transparent investigations to ensure donated supplies reach their intended beneficiaries.
