Brighton Sign Nigerian Teenager in Record £21.5m Deal
Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna from AIK for £21.5m on a five-year deal, making him the most expensive player ever sold by a Swedish club.
Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna from Swedish club AIK in a record £21.5 million deal.
The 18-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the Premier League side until June 2031, following the agreement between both clubs.
The transfer fee is reported to include a €28 million guaranteed payment, along with €2 million in performance-related add-ons, bringing the total package to £21.5 million.
The move makes Yohanna the most expensive player ever sold by a Swedish club, surpassing the previous record set by Lucas Bergvall after his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
Brighton’s recruitment of the Nigerian teenager is seen as part of their long-term strategy of investing in young talent with high development potential. Yohanna is expected to join the club’s long-term project as they continue to strengthen their squad for future campaigns.
The deal also highlights the growing reputation of Nigerian youth players in European football, with several emerging prospects attracting major transfer interest from top leagues.
Yohanna’s arrival is expected to be formally completed after final medical and registration procedures, with the club planning to integrate him into their development structure before full first-team involvement.
