Bandits Behead Abducted Oyo Teacher
One of the teachers abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Michael Oyedokun, has been killed by suspected bandits.
Oyedokun was reportedly beheaded in a disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers on Sunday.
The video, which circulated on Telegram and other social media platforms, showed the victim tied up and forced to speak before he was gruesomely murdered, sparking widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of the remaining captives.
The incident has thrown the affected community into mourning, with residents, families of the abducted victims, and community leaders urging security agencies and the Oyo State Government to intensify efforts to rescue those still being held.
Confirming the development, Suleimon Olanrewaju, media aide to Governor Seyi Makinde, said the government had received the tragic news and extended condolences to the victim’s family.
According to him, the state government remains committed to rescuing the remaining victims through both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
He disclosed that six suspects linked to the kidnapping had already been arrested, while three other persons of interest were also apprehended by another security outfit operating within the state.
Olanrewaju also sympathised with the families of security personnel, including soldiers, Amotekun operatives and local vigilantes, who lost their lives during rescue operations after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by the abductors.
He added that injured security operatives were responding positively to treatment and assured that the government would provide adequate care for them.
“What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. Unfortunately, we received a video this morning showing that one of the teachers, the mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists,” he said.
The gunmen reportedly attacked the school on Friday, May 15, abducting the principal, several teachers and some students.
The latest incident has heightened fears over worsening insecurity in parts of Oyo State and across Nigeria, especially following recent kidnapping attempts along major roads in the state.
