The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections produced major political upsets across the country, with several powerful political figures losing out while others secured landslide victories and consensus tickets.

One of the biggest surprises came from Imo State, where Governor Hope Uzodimma defeated former governor Rochas Okorocha in the Imo West senatorial primary. Uzodimma polled over 230,000 votes, leaving Okorocha far behind in the contest.

In Kogi Central, former governor Yahaya Bello staged a major political comeback after emerging winner of the APC senatorial primary with a landslide victory over his rivals.

Ogun State also witnessed political drama as former governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun stayed away from the primaries amid disagreements over consensus arrangements within the party.

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun secured victory in Ogun East, polling massive votes across several wards. Senator Shuaib Salisu also defeated Senator Gbenga Obadara in Ogun Central, while Jimoh Ojugbele emerged in Ogun West through a consensus arrangement.

In Delta State, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa defeated Senator Ned Nwoko in Delta North. Senator Ede Dafinone also overcame former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege in Delta Central.

Several APC heavyweights, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Ali Ndume and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, emerged through consensus or affirmation processes.

The primaries, however, were not without controversy. Confusion erupted in Edo South over conflicting results, while tensions were reported in Ebonyi and Rivers states. The APC also disqualified dozens of aspirants nationwide, sparking allegations of manipulation and internal crisis within the party.
