APC Hit by Fresh Defection as Senator Buba Dumps Party, Joins PRP
Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero Buba has left the APC for the PRP, citing lack of internal democracy, as political realignments intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election
Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero Buba has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged lack of internal democracy and unfair treatment within the party, and has officially joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, Senator Buba announced his defection after consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders in his constituency. He alleged that the APC leadership failed to provide a level playing field for members and aspirants during internal political activities.
The lawmaker stated that his decision to join the PRP was driven by his desire to continue pursuing what he described as people-oriented politics and democratic values.
Political observers say the defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments, resignations, and party switches currently shaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. Analysts note that internal disputes over primaries, endorsements, and party leadership have continued to trigger tensions across several political parties.
The PRP leadership reportedly welcomed Senator Buba into the party, describing his entry as a major boost to its political strength and grassroots mobilization efforts.
The development comes as political parties nationwide intensify preparations for party primaries, candidate screenings, and coalition discussions ahead of the next election cycle.
