Adeleke Demands Immediate Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Death Threats

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally called on federal law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest and investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi following the emergence of a viral video in which the lawmaker allegedly incited deadly violence against political opponents ahead of Saturday's gubernatorial election.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke revealed that he had reported the urgent matter directly to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu. According to Adeleke, the Police Chief confirmed the existence of the controversial recording and assured him of immediate, decisive action to maintain public safety.

The widespread public controversy stems from video footage circulated heavily across major social media platforms, including TikTok and X. The video was prominently shared online by global Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as well as legal practitioner Pelumi Olajengbesi. In the clip, the serving senator allegedly instructed loyalists to execute targeted attacks against political rivals.

Davido provided an English translation of the senator’s Yoruba remarks, quoting Fadahunsi as explicitly saying: "From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too."

Emphasizing the severe implications of the threat, Governor Adeleke stated that the issue extends beyond standard political rivalry into a critical national security emergency. Consequently, the governor appealed to President Bola Tinubu, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, alongside the Department of State Services and police leadership, to intervene swiftly to avert potential political violence, lawlessness, and alleged genocide across Ijesaland and the broader Osun State.

However, Senator Fadahunsi firmly denied the allegations in a personally signed press statement, alleging that the video was maliciously manipulated and edited to distort his actual commentary. The lawmaker asserted that his statements responded to earlier unprovoked attacks against All Progressives Congress members in Ilesa, clarifying that he was merely warning of potential retaliation should violence against his supporters persist.

With security tensions escalating dramatically across the state ahead of Saturday's gubernatorial election, political observers and residents alike await swift law enforcement action to guarantee a peaceful, transparent, and violence-free democratic process.
