Amotekun Arrests 97 Suspected Kidnappers, Robbers in Ondo Crackdown
The Ondo State Amotekun Corps says it arrested 97 suspects across the state within two weeks over alleged kidnapping, robbery, burglary, vehicle theft and anti-open grazing violations.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has announced the arrest of 97 suspects linked to various criminal activities across Ondo State.
The suspects were apprehended during a series of operations conducted over the past two weeks in different parts of the state, according to the Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adeleye.
Speaking on Sunday, Adeleye said the suspects were arrested in connection with offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, vehicle theft, hijacking and violations of the state’s anti-open grazing law.
According to him, the arrests were made across all 18 local government areas of the state as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and improve security.
“I have a total of 97 suspects arrested across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State within the last 14 days,” Adeleye said.
“Some were arrested directly in connection with kidnapping-related cases. Others were arrested for violating the anti-open grazing law of Ondo State. Some were arrested for burglary and robbery, while others were apprehended in connection with vehicle hijacking and theft.”
The commander disclosed that several of those arrested were suspected members of kidnapping and armed robbery gangs allegedly operating in communities such as Ikare Akoko, Akure, Ilu-Abo, Kajola, Akure North, Mure and Oja-Mokan.
He noted that intelligence gathering and coordinated raids by Amotekun operatives led to the successful arrests.
Adeleye reiterated the Corps’ commitment to supporting security agencies in combating crime and protecting residents across the state.
He added that the agency would continue to intensify surveillance, patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and preventing attacks on communities.
The Amotekun commander also warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face arrest and prosecution.
The arrests come amid growing concerns over kidnapping and other security challenges in parts of the South-West region, with state governments increasingly relying on local security outfits to complement conventional security agencies.
Adeleye assured residents that Amotekun remains vigilant and dedicated to maintaining peace and security throughout Ondo State, while urging members of the public to provide useful information that could assist security operations and help prevent crime.
