Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results
Rotimi Amaechi rejected the ADC presidential primary results, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement, vote manipulation and irregularities, while accusing the party of repeating the same practices it criticises in APC and INEC.
Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primaries, alleging widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice during the exercise.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results announced by the party as “concocted” and said he would not accept an outcome that lacked fairness and transparency.
The former Rivers State governor stated that he had earlier agreed to respect the outcome only if the process was free, fair and transparent.
Amaechi accused the ADC leadership of betraying the party’s stated mission of offering Nigerians an alternative platform built on fairness and accountability.
He alleged that nearly 80 per cent of party members were denied the opportunity to vote during the primaries, questioning how the party could claim credibility while allegedly disenfranchising members.
According to him, the ADC was established to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians and create a more inclusive political platform regardless of ethnicity, religion or background.
Amaechi further accused the party of engaging in the same electoral practices it had previously criticised in the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission, including alleged vote buying, result manipulation and voter suppression.
Although the ADC leadership has yet to officially announce the final nationwide results, early figures from several states showed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar leading the contest, with Amaechi in second place and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen trailing behind.
