Ajimobi Was Like a Father to Me, Says Adelabu

Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has paid tribute to the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, describing him as a father figure whose guidance and mentorship shaped his political career.

Adelabu made the remarks during the sixth-year Fidau prayer held in honour of the late governor at his residence in Oluyole Estate, Ibadan. He said his relationship with Ajimobi went beyond politics, noting that the former governor played a significant role in his entry into public service and remained a trusted mentor throughout his political journey.

Reflecting on Ajimobi's leadership, Adelabu described him as a disciplined administrator who provided clear direction and transformed governance in Oyo State. He praised the late governor's achievements in security, infrastructure and education, adding that his administration brought unity and stability to the APC in the state.

Adelabu also urged members of the APC in Oyo State to put aside their differences and work towards rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that reconciliation and unity would be essential if the party hopes to regain power in the state.

Other speakers at the event, including former Secretary to the State Government Olalekan Ali and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, also paid glowing tributes to Ajimobi. They described him as a principled leader whose legacy of discipline, order and effective governance should inspire current and future political leaders.

Ajimobi, who served as governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019, died on 25 June 2020 at the age of 70 following complications from COVID-19. His sixth-year remembrance was attended by family members, political associates and supporters from across the country.
