Aggrieved Aspirant Seeks Nullification of Ogun APC Governorship Primary
A governorship aspirant of the APC in Ogun State has rejected the outcome of the party's primary, alleging irregularities and demanding the cancellation of the exercise.
A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has rejected the outcome of the party's governorship primary, alleging irregularities and demanding the cancellation of the exercise.
Dissatisfaction has trailed the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, as one of the aspirants has cried foul over the conduct of the election, calling for its outright nullification.
The aggrieved aspirant alleged that the primary was marred by irregularities, accusing the party leadership of failing to conduct a free, fair and transparent exercise.
According to the aspirant, the process fell short of the standards expected of a credible internal democratic contest, claiming that several provisions of the party's guidelines and the Electoral Act were not adhered to during the primary.
The aspirant called on the national leadership of the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intervene and order a fresh primary, insisting that the disputed exercise did not reflect the genuine wishes of party members and delegates in the state.
The aggrieved aspirant vowed to explore all legal and constitutional means available to challenge the outcome, including approaching the party's appeal committee and, if necessary, the courts, to seek redress.
The development has further heightened tension within the Ogun State chapter of the ruling party, as various aspirants and stakeholders jostle for advantage ahead of the next governorship election in the state.
Political observers note that disputes arising from party primaries have become a recurring feature in Nigeria's electoral process, often leading to prolonged litigation and internal wrangling within political parties.
As of the time of this report, the leadership of the APC in Ogun State had not issued an official response to the allegations raised by the aggrieved aspirant.
