Police Grant Osun APC Senator Bail After Interrogation Over Death Threat

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, has been granted administrative bail by the Osun State Police Command after being questioned over a viral comment allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party.

Fadahunsi reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo on Wednesday following a police invitation over the comments, which sparked widespread criticism ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

In a video shared on X on Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress senator, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard calling on supporters to kill members of the Accord Party.

The video quickly generated backlash, prompting Fadahunsi to respond that his remarks had been misinterpreted and that the footage being circulated did not accurately represent what he intended to say.

The senator arrived at the Osun State CID office in Osogbo at about 2pm on Wednesday to answer questions concerning the statement.

A video posted by News Central Television later showed Fadahunsi leaving the police premises and entering a black Jeep accompanied by other party supporters.

The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the senator had been released on administrative bail.

“Yes, the senator has been granted administrative bail. But the case still continues,” Ojelabi told TheCable.

The police had formally summoned Fadahunsi in a letter dated August 11, 2026, asking him to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statements attributed to him during an APC campaign event in Ilesa.

The invitation was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun governorship election.

The police directed the senator to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday.

According to the summon, the invitation followed information received by the police alleging that Fadahunsi made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating during his address.

The police also noted that the video containing the alleged remarks had circulated widely across electronic and social media platforms.

The development comes amid heightened political tension and reports of violence in Osun State as political parties prepare for Saturday’s governorship election.

Fadahunsi’s interrogation is expected to form part of the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the controversial remarks and whether they amount to a criminal offence.
