Osun Election: Akpabio, Uzodimma, Others Storm Osogbo for APC Mega Rally

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, and other governors have arrived in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, for the All Progressives Congress mega rally ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Other APC leaders at the rally include Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and House of Representatives member James Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency.

The rally forms part of the APC’s final mobilisation efforts for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

Coming on the final day of the official campaign period, the event is expected to draw APC leaders, supporters, campaign coordinators and party members from across the 30 local government areas of the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed Thursday, August 13, as the deadline for campaigns after adjusting the election date from August 8 to August 15.

APC leaders are backing Oyebamiji, who emerged as the party’s governorship candidate following its primary election held in Osogbo.

Oyebamiji is contesting against incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, as well as candidates of the African Democratic Congress, People’s Redemption Party and other political parties.

The final mobilisation comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State, where allegations of intimidation and violence have featured prominently in the build-up to the election.

The Accord Party has accused the APC of using federal institutions and government influence to suppress opposition parties, allegations the ruling party has rejected.

The state has witnessed several incidents of political violence in recent weeks, prompting calls from civil society groups and political actors for security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had also frozen the Osun State Government’s account days before the election, sparking political controversy.

President Bola Tinubu subsequently intervened and directed the anti-graft agency to unfreeze the account.

The APC rally represents the party’s final major campaign activity before the election, as Oyebamiji seeks to wrest control of the state from the incumbent administration.

With campaigning ending, attention now shifts to election day, when voters across Osun’s 30 local government areas will determine the next governor of the state.
