Teachers, Nurses, Police Officers Can Own Homes With N100,000 — FG
Federal Government announces a 2,000-unit housing project in Lagos, offering eligible Nigerians an initial deposit of N100,000 and mortgage payments spread over 25 years.
The Federal Government has announced a housing initiative that could enable teachers, nurses, police officers and other Nigerians to begin the process of homeownership with an initial deposit of N100,000.
The initiative is part of a 2,000-unit Renewed Hope Housing Development being undertaken through a public-private partnership at Lekki Aviation Town in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, October 30, 2026, describing the project as part of the administration’s efforts to expand access to affordable housing, create jobs and promote sustainable urban development.
The project is being executed in partnership with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited and Metroscape Development Company Limited. It will comprise two-bedroom and three-bedroom housing units.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Gardens, Abdullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, said prospective homeowners could access the development with an initial deposit of N100,000, while spreading payments over 25 years through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
He said the arrangement was designed to accommodate teachers, police officers, nurses, civil servants, young entrepreneurs and Nigerians living in the diaspora.
However, the N100,000 represents an initial deposit and not the full cost of a house. Details of the properties’ selling prices, applicable interest rates and monthly repayment amounts were not disclosed at the announcement.
Darma said the project reflected the government’s strategy of increasing housing supply, improving access to mortgage finance and mobilising private-sector investment to address the country’s housing deficit.
He also stressed that the success of the development would depend on the timely delivery of quality homes at the announced prices, urging the developers and contractors to maintain safety and environmental standards.
The minister disclosed that the project was expected to generate more than 50,000 jobs during construction and create substantial economic opportunities within the Ibeju-Lekki corridor.
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Prince Bayo Balogun commended the partnership and called for more private investment in housing development.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning, Awaji Inombek Abiante, urged the developers and government to ensure that the estate was supported by adequate roads, transportation, markets and other essential infrastructure.
The project is expected to contribute to the Federal Government’s broader Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which seeks to expand homeownership opportunities for low- and middle-income Nigerians.
