Adeleke Calls for End to Political Violence in Osun
Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind political violence in Osun State, calling for peaceful political activities and impartial law enforcement ahead of the governorship election.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for an immediate end to political violence in the state, urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute individuals responsible for recent attacks and other violent crimes.
The governor made the appeal during a meeting with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Adegoke Fayoade, stressing that those behind politically motivated violence must be brought to justice regardless of their affiliations. He said the recurring attacks posed a serious threat to peace and democratic governance in the state.
Adeleke expressed concern over what he described as a rising wave of violence ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, insisting that law enforcement agencies must act decisively to prevent further loss of lives and property. He urged residents to remain peaceful and avoid taking the law into their own hands while investigations continue.
The governor also called for greater professionalism among security agencies, emphasising the need for impartial policing and the strict enforcement of the law. According to him, anyone found sponsoring or participating in political violence should face prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that political activities in the state are conducted in a safe and orderly manner. Adeleke added that democracy can only flourish in an atmosphere free from intimidation, violence and fear.
The appeal comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State as parties intensify preparations for the governorship election, with stakeholders calling for peaceful campaigns and respect for the rule of law.
