Abducted Easter Worshippers Still Missing After 70 Days — Kaduna Community
Residents of Kuturmi have raised fresh concerns over worsening insecurity, saying dozens of abductees remain missing months after separate attacks while displaced families continue to struggle without assistance.
The Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA) has accused the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and security agencies of neglecting communities affected by insecurity in Kachia Local Government Area, revealing that worshippers abducted during an Easter Sunday church service in Ariko remain in captivity more than 70 days after the incident.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the association expressed frustration over what it described as inadequate efforts to secure the release of victims and address the growing humanitarian crisis in the area.
The statement, signed by KUDA President J.D. Ariko and Publicity Secretary Manasseh Samuel, disclosed that another group of 11 residents abducted during an attack on the Awon community over 50 days ago had also not regained their freedom.
According to the association, relatives of the kidnapped worshippers have continued to endure uncertainty and emotional distress, with little evidence of a coordinated rescue effort by relevant authorities.
“It is now over 70 days since innocent Christian worshippers were abducted during an Easter Sunday church service at Ariko. Families whose loved ones were taken have been left to suffer in silence,” the statement said.
KUDA stated that persistent attacks by armed groups have displaced more than 100 communities across Kuturmi land and neighbouring areas, forcing thousands of residents to abandon their homes and livelihoods.
The group alleged that many displaced persons are currently living in informal settlements without access to government-supported camps, food assistance, healthcare services, educational opportunities or adequate relief materials.
It warned that worsening conditions have exposed vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women and elderly residents, to severe hardship, hunger and disease.
The association further claimed that despite repeated appeals for intervention, attacks have continued while affected communities receive little support.
KUDA called on the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government, Kachia Local Government Council and security agencies to intensify efforts toward securing the immediate release of all abducted persons and strengthening security across vulnerable communities.
The association also demanded emergency humanitarian assistance for displaced residents and urged authorities to formally recognise displaced settlements to facilitate support and intervention.
It further appealed for the immediate construction of the approved Forward Operating Base at Maraba Barga Junction in Awon, arguing that the facility would improve security response and enhance protection for residents facing persistent threats.
