200 Students Benefit From Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship
About 200 students have been selected as the first beneficiaries of a ₦1 billion scholarship scheme by Miva Open University and the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, aimed at supporting 1,000 underprivileged students over five years.
About 200 students have been selected as the first beneficiaries of the Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship, a major education support programme aimed at expanding access to higher education for talented but financially constrained Nigerian students.
The initiative is a partnership between Miva Open University and the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, and is structured as a ₦1 billion, five-year scholarship scheme designed to support 1,000 students in total.
According to the organisers, over 1,700 applications were received from students across the country when the programme opened, before a rigorous selection process was carried out.
Successful candidates were chosen based on academic performance, financial need, and clearly defined educational goals, with the final list communicated directly to beneficiaries after screening.
Institutional representatives said the scholarship reflects a shared commitment to reducing barriers to education and developing human capital by giving capable students the opportunity to complete their studies without financial pressure.
The programme is expected to run in phases until it reaches its target of 1,000 beneficiaries over the next five years, with further selection rounds planned in subsequent cohorts.
