World Cup: ‘Violent Thugs, Disgrace to Football’ — Piers Morgan Blasts Argentina

British broadcaster Piers Morgan has strongly criticised Argentina’s players over their conduct following the country’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, describing their actions as a disgrace to football.

Argentina’s hopes of retaining the World Cup title ended after Spain secured victory in extra time to claim their second FIFA World Cup crown.

However, attention shifted from the result to the chaotic scenes that unfolded after the final whistle at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Television cameras captured a confrontation involving players from both teams, with Argentina defender Leandro Paredes at the centre of the incident.

Paredes was seen shoving Spain defender Eric Garcia before turning his attention to midfielder Gavi, whom he forcefully pushed to the ground.

The incident quickly escalated into a heated confrontation involving players and members of both teams’ technical staff before officials restored order.

Reacting on his X account, Morgan condemned the behaviour of the Argentine players, particularly Paredes, accusing them of displaying violence and poor sportsmanship.

“Disgusting behaviour by the Argentinians at the end, especially Paredes. Just a bunch of nasty violent thugs, and a disgrace to football. Never been so happy to see a team lose,” Morgan wrote.

The broadcaster’s comments sparked widespread reactions online, with football fans divided over his assessment of the incident.

While some agreed that Argentina crossed the line with their physical approach, others argued Morgan’s criticism was excessive given the emotions surrounding a World Cup final defeat.

The final itself was fiercely contested, with referee Slavko Vincic forced to make several disciplinary decisions throughout the encounter.

Argentina’s aggressive style resulted in seven yellow cards and one red card, with all disciplinary sanctions issued against the South American side.
