World Cup 2026: Simon Jordan Predicts Team to Win Trophy
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes France remain the strongest World Cup team, insisting whoever defeats them will win the tournament, while backing England to triumph with luck.
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has identified France as the team to beat at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that either Didier Deschamps’ side or the nation that eliminates them will eventually lift the trophy.
Jordan made the prediction while speaking on Piers Morgan’s Sports Uncensored, where he also expressed confidence that England could emerge as surprise champions despite mixed performances so far in the competition.
According to him, France remains the strongest team in the tournament based on the quality of their squad and their performances during the group stage.
“I maintain that if you manage to defeat France, you will win the World Cup,” Jordan said.
He explained that the French national team possesses the depth, experience and attacking quality required to go all the way in the competition, making them the benchmark for every other contender.
Despite his admiration for France, Jordan also backed England to challenge for the title, arguing that Thomas Tuchel’s side could take advantage of favourable circumstances in the knockout rounds.
“Despite the prevailing sense of pessimism that appears to have enveloped the England camp, I have a hunch that with a bit of luck, England can clinch the World Cup,” he said.
The football pundit admitted he was not prepared to place a financial wager on England’s chances but remained convinced they could go all the way.
“I am going to firmly express my support; while I won’t place any bets, I will declare that England will emerge victorious,” he added.
France has enjoyed a perfect campaign so far, winning all three of its group-stage matches to finish top of Group I and strengthen its reputation as one of the tournament favourites.
Argentina has also maintained a flawless record, with Lionel Scaloni’s side recording three victories from three matches to top Group J and advance comfortably to the knockout phase.
England, meanwhile, progressed from Group L unbeaten despite failing to secure victory in one of its matches. The Three Lions still finished first in the group and advanced to the Round of 32.
With the knockout stages now underway, attention has shifted to whether France can justify its status as tournament favourite or if another contender, including England, can mount a successful challenge for football’s biggest prize.
