World Cup 2026: Same Way Spain Beat Argentina, We’ll Defeat Tinubu in 2027 — Sowore

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has congratulated Spain on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, declaring that the victory reflects how President Bola Tinubu would be defeated in the 2027 general elections.

Sowore made the remark in a post shared on his verified X account shortly after Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday.

The former presidential candidate, who had earlier predicted Spain’s triumph before the final, said the result reinforced his belief that political change was also possible in Nigeria.

“It happened as I predicted it. The World Cup final I foretold… came to pass. Spain defeats Argentina. The same way we will defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Congrats, Spain,” Sowore wrote.

Spain secured the 2026 FIFA World Cup title with a narrow victory over Argentina, ending the South Americans’ hopes of retaining the trophy they won in 2022.

The win handed Spain their second FIFA World Cup title, having previously lifted the trophy in South Africa in 2010.

The final attracted global attention as it featured Argentina captain Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players, and Spain’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers.

Sowore, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the AAC, has consistently criticised the Tinubu administration over issues ranging from governance and economic policies to insecurity and human rights.

His latest comment links the outcome of the World Cup final to his confidence in the opposition’s prospects in the next presidential election.

Political activities ahead of the 2027 elections have continued to gather momentum, with opposition parties exploring possible alliances and strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Although no official campaign has begun, prominent political figures have increasingly used public events and national issues to signal their intentions and mobilise supporters.

Sowore has repeatedly maintained that Nigeria requires a new political direction driven by accountability, transparency and citizen participation.

His congratulatory message to Spain quickly attracted reactions on social media, with supporters praising his optimism while critics dismissed the comparison between a football result and Nigeria’s political landscape.

The 2027 general election is expected to feature intense competition as political parties prepare to challenge the incumbent administration after the completion of President Tinubu’s first term in office.
