World Cup 2026: ‘I Cried Alone’ — Neymar Opens Up After Brazil’s 3-0 Win Over Scotland
Neymar revealed he became emotional and cried alone after returning from injury to feature in Brazil’s 3-0 World Cup victory over Scotland, describing the moment as special.
Brazil forward Neymar has revealed that he became emotional and cried alone after making his return from injury during Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Scotland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The veteran attacker made his first appearance of the tournament after replacing Matheus Cunha in the second half of the Group C encounter. His return came after missing Brazil’s opening two matches against Morocco and Haiti because of a calf injury.
Brazil secured a convincing victory over Scotland to finish top of Group C with seven points, strengthening their position ahead of the knockout stages of the competition.
Speaking after the match, Neymar described the occasion as one of the most memorable moments of his football career, admitting that the emotions of returning to the pitch for the national team overwhelmed him.
“No doubt, I rate this as one of the most special days of my career. It’s every boy’s dream to play for Seleção, and I’ve been given this chance,” Neymar said.
The 34-year-old explained that his period on the sidelines had been difficult, adding that he was eager to rejoin his teammates and contribute to Brazil’s World Cup campaign.
“I’ve been away for many days now, and I missed it and was eager to get back. I felt a big relief today,” he stated.
Neymar disclosed that he became emotional after the game and shed tears in private as he reflected on his journey back from injury.
“I got a bit emotional and cried alone afterwards because it feels so good to live all of this one more time,” he added.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star also expressed gratitude to Brazilian supporters, family members and close friends for standing by him throughout his recovery.
“I thank every Brazilian fan who rooted for me, especially my family and my friends,” Neymar said.
Brazil’s victory over Scotland was inspired by goals from Vinicius Junior and Matheus Cunha, as the South Americans delivered a dominant performance to secure maximum points.
With Neymar now back in action, Brazil will hope his experience and creativity can provide an additional boost as they continue their quest for a sixth World Cup title.
