2027: NDC, Obidients Reject Ganduje’s Criticism of Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Obidient Movement have dismissed comments by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, describing the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket as lacking the political strength to succeed in the 2027 general election.

The groups insisted that both leaders possess proven governance records and broad political support capable of securing victory across Nigeria, including Kano State.

Ganduje had recently described the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as “dead on arrival,” arguing that neither politician had demonstrated the leadership credentials or political legacy required to win the presidency. He also questioned Obi’s achievements as governor of Anambra State and Kwankwaso’s political influence in Kano.

Reacting to the remarks, NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, dismissed Ganduje’s comments as politically insignificant, claiming the former Kano governor no longer commands substantial influence in his home state.

According to him, the NDC remains confident of winning future elections in Kano because of Kwankwaso’s enduring political popularity.

He argued that Kwankwaso’s political structure remains formidable, stressing that the former governor played a significant role in Ganduje’s own rise to power when he served as deputy governor.

Abdulsalam also expressed confidence that Obi’s electoral performance in the 2023 presidential election demonstrated his growing national appeal, predicting that the current political climate would further strengthen his support ahead of the 2027 polls.

He maintained that worsening economic conditions would encourage more Nigerians, particularly in the northern region, to support the NDC ticket.

Also responding, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, questioned Ganduje’s credibility to assess the records of both Obi and Kwankwaso.

Tanko praised Obi’s stewardship as governor of Anambra State, citing his prudent financial management and the savings reportedly left for his successor.

He also highlighted Kwankwaso’s investments in infrastructure and education in Kano State, including scholarship programmes that reportedly produced professionals in various fields.

According to Tanko, both politicians have established legacies that continue to resonate with many Nigerians.

He insisted that Ganduje’s criticism would have little impact on public opinion, arguing that the growing support enjoyed by Obi and Kwankwaso reflects the confidence many citizens have in their leadership and vision for the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
