World Cup 2026: Eberechi Eze Reacts to Harry Kane Being Cursed by Ghanaian Witch Doctor
England midfielder Eberechi Eze dismissed speculation surrounding an alleged curse on Harry Kane, saying he was uninterested in the claims after the striker’s goalless draw against Ghana.
England midfielder Eberechi Eze has played down claims that teammate and captain Harry Kane was affected by an alleged curse placed on him by a Ghanaian witch doctor during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Eze addressed the controversy after England’s goalless draw against Ghana in their Group L encounter, a result that sparked widespread discussion on social media following Kane’s failure to find the back of the net.
Before the match, self-proclaimed Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam claimed he had placed a curse on the England captain to prevent him from scoring against the Black Stars.
The witch doctor, who previously claimed responsibility for Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, said he had spiritually influenced Kane’s performance ahead of the crucial fixture.
Asked after the match whether the alleged curse had become a topic of discussion within the England dressing room, Eze responded with amusement.
The Crystal Palace midfielder laughed before asking the interviewer whether he genuinely believed in such claims.
He then distanced himself from the issue, insisting that he was “not too interested” in discussing matters relating to superstition or spiritual claims.
Kane endured a frustrating evening against Ghana as England were held to a 0-0 draw despite creating several scoring opportunities.
The result denied the Bayern Munich striker the chance to surpass Gary Lineker’s record of 10 World Cup goals for England.
Having equalled the former striker’s tally earlier in the tournament, Kane entered the Ghana match needing just one more goal to become England’s outright leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
His inability to score reignited online speculation surrounding Bonsam’s earlier declaration, with many football fans debating whether the unusual prediction had any influence on the outcome.
Following the match, the Ghanaian spiritualist claimed he had already “released” Kane from the alleged spell.
Despite the controversy, England remain in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage, while Kane is expected to lead the Three Lions in their remaining World Cup fixtures.
The England camp has not officially responded to the witch doctor’s claims, with players and coaching staff maintaining their focus on preparations for the next phase of the tournament.
Eze’s reaction reflected the squad’s apparent determination to avoid distractions as they continue their quest for World Cup glory in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
