Wike Says Fubara Committed No Sin After Political Reconciliation

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed suggestions that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara committed any wrongdoing by returning to his political camp, insisting that "there is no sin in politics." He said Fubara's decision to reunite with the political family that supported his emergence as governor was the right step.

Speaking while inspecting ongoing road projects in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike said politics is about making decisions and correcting mistakes when necessary. He argued that there was nothing wrong with Fubara choosing to retrace his steps after their prolonged political disagreement, adding that such decisions are part of the realities of political life.

The minister also recalled that he had previously predicted Fubara's return, saying the governor had no option but to reunite with his political roots. His remarks came days after Fubara publicly declared support for Wike's Rainbow Coalition, endorsed President Bola Tinubu's second-term bid and urged his supporters to back the coalition's candidates in future elections.

Rejecting claims that he had "forgiven" the governor, Wike maintained that forgiveness did not arise because no offence had been committed. According to him, what matters in politics is recognising when a decision is wrong and taking steps to correct it, rather than dwelling on past disagreements.

The latest remarks signal a further easing of tensions between the two political figures after months of rivalry that dominated Rivers State politics. Their reconciliation is expected to influence political alignments in the state as preparations for the 2027 general election continue.
