US Missions in Nigeria Announce Remaining 2026 Holiday Closures
The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos have announced their remaining 2026 public holiday closures, advising visa applicants and other visitors to plan ahead as routine consular services will be unavailable on the affected dates.
The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have released the list of public holidays they will observe for the remainder of 2026, informing the public that routine consular services will be suspended on the designated dates. The closures apply to visa appointments, passport services and other non-emergency consular operations.
According to the mission, the remaining holidays cover both Nigerian and United States public holidays. They include Eid-el-Maulud, Nigeria's Independence Day, U.S. Columbus Day, U.S. Veterans Day, U.S. Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, among others. Emergency services for U.S. citizens will remain available where necessary.
The embassy advised applicants with scheduled appointments to check their booking dates carefully and make necessary adjustments if they coincide with any of the listed holidays. It also encouraged travellers to plan ahead to avoid disruptions to visa processing and other consular services.
The U.S. Mission noted that normal operations will resume on the first working day after each holiday. It reiterated its commitment to providing efficient consular services while observing official public holidays recognised by both countries.
