UNILAG Advises Female Students on Safety, Sparks Debate Over Anti-Rape Guidelines

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has come under public scrutiny after issuing a series of safety advisories to female students as part of its anti-rape awareness campaign. The recommendations, which included avoiding handshakes with strangers and exercising caution in social interactions, have generated widespread debate on social media.

The advisory encouraged female students to remain alert, avoid isolated areas, be mindful of their surroundings and refrain from accepting invitations or gifts from unfamiliar individuals.
