UNICAL Cracks Down on Wild Graduation Celebrations, Cult Activities

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has reiterated its ban on wild post-examination celebrations and cult-related activities, warning students against any conduct capable of disrupting peace and order on campus. The directive was announced by the university's Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha, who expressed concern over the growing trend of disorderly celebrations by final-year students after completing their examinations.

According to the registrar, prohibited activities include reckless driving, flying of colours and other forms of unruly behaviour within the campus and around the university gates. She stressed that the ban remains fully in force and warned that any student or group found violating the directive would face disciplinary sanctions in line with the institution's regulations.

The university also directed the Acting Chief Security Officer to ensure strict enforcement of the directive across the campus and its surrounding areas. Students, particularly finalists, were urged to comply with the regulations and conduct themselves responsibly during the graduation period to maintain a peaceful learning environment.

UNICAL recalled that the directive follows previous incidents linked to reckless graduation celebrations, including a serious road crash on campus in 2024 involving graduating students.
