Iru Ekun Security Network Volunteers Surpass 80,000, Says Igboho

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced that the Iru Ekun Security Network has registered more than 80,000 volunteers across the South-West, surpassing its initial target of 50,000 personnel. He described the milestone as a reflection of the region's commitment to supporting community-based efforts to combat kidnapping, terrorism and other criminal activities.

In a statement issued by his media office, Igboho said the security outfit has already been officially launched in Oyo and Osun states, with plans finalised for its launch in Kwara State. He added that the organisation is conducting thorough background checks on all recruits to prevent individuals with criminal records or questionable character from joining its ranks.

Igboho claimed that kidnapping incidents had reduced significantly in parts of the South-West since the establishment of the security network. He attributed the improvement to intelligence gathering, local community support and collaboration with federal security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu, security chiefs and South-West governors for supporting the initiative, urging Nigerians to view security as a collective responsibility regardless of ethnic or religious differences. According to him, sustained cooperation between local communities and security agencies remains essential to tackling insecurity across the region.
