New Jersey AG to Continue FIFA World Cup Ticketing Investigation

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office has confirmed it will continue investigating FIFA's ticketing practices after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following numerous complaints from fans over soaring prices and disputed seat allocations. The probe focuses on allegations that some supporters paid premium prices but were later assigned less desirable seats or did not receive the ticket categories they had purchased.

The investigation was launched jointly by New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who subpoenaed FIFA in May as part of a consumer protection inquiry. Authorities are examining whether FIFA misled fans through its ticketing system and whether changes to seating zones and ticket allocations unfairly affected purchasers.

Officials said the inquiry will continue despite the tournament's conclusion, noting that consumer complaints remain unresolved. Similar investigations have also been opened in California and Texas, while a German court recently issued an injunction against aspects of FIFA's ticket resale practices, adding to the scrutiny surrounding the organisation's handling of World Cup ticket sales.

FIFA has not publicly commented on the continuation of the New Jersey investigation. The governing body has faced criticism throughout the tournament over high ticket prices, resale policies and allegations that some fans were not provided with the seats they were promised. The outcome of the investigation could influence how tickets are sold and managed for future FIFA tournaments.
