At least four people have died following a devastating rainstorm that swept through parts of Sokoto State, leaving a trail of destruction across several communities. The storm, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rainfall, destroyed homes, damaged public infrastructure and displaced numerous residents, prompting emergency response efforts by state authorities.

The Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the fatalities and said assessment teams had been deployed to affected areas to determine the full extent of the damage. Officials reported that several buildings had either collapsed or suffered severe structural damage, while electricity facilities and other public infrastructure were also affected by the storm.

According to the agency, emergency responders are providing immediate assistance to affected families, while efforts are underway to support those displaced by the disaster. The state government also appealed to residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and to heed weather advisories issued by relevant authorities to minimise the risk of further casualties.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to assisting victims and restoring damaged infrastructure, while urging communities in flood- and storm-prone areas to take necessary precautions as the rainy season continues across the country.
