Umahi Warns Politicians Exploiting Mary Habila's Death

Minister of Works David Umahi has condemned attempts by some individuals and political actors to exploit the death of Mary Habila for political gain, warning that those profiting from the tragedy or using it to score political points would face the consequences of their actions. He described such conduct as insensitive and disrespectful to the deceased and her family.

Umahi made the remarks while reacting to public comments surrounding Habila's death, insisting that the unfortunate incident should not be turned into a political issue. He urged Nigerians to allow the family to mourn in peace rather than spread misinformation or use the tragedy to promote personal or partisan interests.

The minister maintained that government agencies were committed to establishing the facts surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served where necessary. He stressed that politicising the matter would neither honour the memory of the deceased nor contribute to addressing the issues arising from her death.

He also called on political leaders, social media users and the general public to exercise restraint in their comments, warning against statements capable of inflaming tensions or misleading the public. According to him, responsible leadership requires empathy, truthfulness and respect for the feelings of grieving families.

Umahi expressed sympathy to the family of Mary Habila and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul. He urged Nigerians to remain united and avoid exploiting personal tragedies for political advantage, saying compassion should prevail over division during moments of national grief.
