Two people have been confirmed dead after a windstorm struck parts of Yobe State, leaving behind a trail of destruction and forcing many residents to begin counting their losses.

The storm, which hit during the rainy season, damaged houses, businesses and household property in affected communities. Local reports indicate that the powerful winds uprooted roofs, flattened structures and disrupted the normal life of families caught in its path.

The impact was especially severe in communities that were hit by strong winds and heavy rainfall at the same time. Many residents were left scrambling to salvage what remained of their belongings after the storm passed.

Yobe State has continued to experience recurring windstorm and flood incidents, with emergency officials often warning that the state remains highly vulnerable to seasonal weather disasters. In previous years, similar storms have destroyed homes, displaced families and claimed lives across different local government areas.

The latest incident adds to concerns about the state’s preparedness for extreme weather, especially in communities where buildings are often vulnerable to collapse. Residents and local authorities are again being forced to confront the risks associated with the onset of the rainy season.

Emergency response teams are expected to assess the scale of the damage and determine the level of support needed by victims. For many families, however, the immediate challenge is finding shelter, food and basic necessities after losing their homes and possessions.

The windstorm underscores the repeated climate-related disasters affecting northern Nigeria and the heavy toll they continue to take on vulnerable communities.
