FIFA Probes Alleged Racist Abuse Targeting IShowSpeed
FIFA has launched an investigation into alleged racist abuse directed at streamer IShowSpeed during the World Cup, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against discrimination.
FIFA has opened an investigation into allegations of racist abuse directed at popular content creator Darren Watkins Jr., widely known as IShowSpeed, during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The world football governing body confirmed the development in a statement posted on its official X account, saying it became aware of the incident following the World Cup match between Argentina and Cape Verde at Miami Stadium on July 3.
According to FIFA, investigations commenced immediately after reports emerged that a supporter allegedly directed racist remarks at the American streamer during the match.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to combating racism and all forms of discrimination, stressing that such behaviour has no place in football or society.
“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society,” the governing body said.
IShowSpeed, one of the world’s most followed online personalities, has built a massive audience with more than 57 million subscribers on YouTube, alongside millions of followers across other social media platforms.
The 21-year-old has been attending several World Cup matches under a partnership involving FIFA, YouTube and American broadcaster Fox Sports, providing live content and behind-the-scenes coverage throughout the tournament.
Reports also alleged that the streamer was subjected to another racist incident during Tuesday’s World Cup fixture between Argentina and Egypt.
According to eyewitness accounts circulating online, an Argentine supporter allegedly imitated a monkey while interacting with the content creator, prompting renewed criticism from football fans and anti-racism campaigners.
FIFA did not confirm whether the latest allegation forms part of the ongoing investigation but maintained that all reported incidents would be examined thoroughly.
The governing body has intensified efforts in recent years to tackle racism at football events through stricter disciplinary measures, awareness campaigns and sanctions against offending supporters.
The latest investigation comes as the organisation continues to promote inclusiveness and respect throughout the World Cup, urging fans to uphold the values of fair play and mutual respect.
No arrests or disciplinary measures had been announced as of the time of filing this report, while FIFA said further updates would be provided after the conclusion of its investigation into the alleged incidents.
