AC Milan Boss Amorim Dismisses Chukwueze Exit Rumours
AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim has dismissed transfer speculation surrounding Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, insisting the player remains part of his plans for the new season.
Reports linking Samuel Chukwueze with a summer departure from AC Milan have been firmly rejected by head coach Ruben Amorim, who used a recent press conference to clarify the player's standing within the Rossoneri squad.
Speaking ahead of the club's pre-season preparations, Amorim addressed questions from journalists regarding transfer rumours that had gained traction on social media and in various Italian and Nigerian sports outlets. According to these reports, Chukwueze was said to be attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, with speculation suggesting the Nigerian international could be used as a makeweight in the club's summer rebuilding plans.
However, Amorim was unequivocal in dismissing the rumours, insisting that Chukwueze remains a key component of his tactical setup. "I don't know where these stories are coming from," Amorim said. "Samuel is a player I trust. He has qualities that fit into how we want to play, and there is no truth to the idea that we are looking to offload him this summer."
The Portuguese tactician praised the winger's work rate and versatility, noting that his ability to play across multiple attacking positions makes him a valuable asset as the club looks to compete on multiple fronts next season, including Serie A and European competitions.
Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 in a deal reported to be worth around €20 million. Since arriving in Italy, the Nigerian international has had a mixed spell at the San Siro, with flashes of brilliance often disrupted by inconsistency and adaptation challenges to Serie A's more physical and tactical style of football.
Despite the ups and downs, the 26-year-old has remained a regular fixture in Nigeria's Super Eagles squad, where his pace, dribbling ability, and eye for goal have made him one of the more dependable wide players available to the national team's technical crew.
Amorim's comments come at a time when several European clubs are reportedly restructuring their squads following the conclusion of major transfer windows tied to the FIFA Club World Cup and other summer commitments. Speculation regarding player exits is common during this period, as clubs assess their rosters and financial fair play requirements.
The Milan boss further explained that his decision to keep faith in Chukwueze is part of a broader strategy to build a settled squad capable of challenging for major honours. He noted that consistency in personnel, rather than constant squad overhauls, would be key to the club's success in the coming campaign.
"Every player who is part of this squad has a role to play. Samuel understands what we want from him, and I believe with more game time and understanding of our system, he will show even more of what he is capable of," Amorim added.
Nigerian football fans and pundits have reacted with relief to the coach's clarification, with many hoping that increased playing time will help Chukwueze rediscover the sharp form that made him one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe during his days at Villarreal, where he played a pivotal role in the club's memorable Champions League run.
AC Milan are expected to continue their pre-season preparations in the coming weeks as they build toward the new Serie A campaign, with fans eager to see whether Amorim's faith in Chukwueze will translate into a productive season for both player and club.
