Troops Storm Terrorists’ Den In Niger, Destroy Hideout
Acting on intelligence reports, troops operating in Niger State uncovered and destroyed a suspected terrorist base, dealing another blow to criminal networks operating within the Borgu axis.
Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) AUDU and BABANNA have destroyed a suspected terrorist hideout during a fighting patrol in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The operation was carried out around the Saminaka–Kanau general area following intelligence reports indicating the presence of a terrorist enclave in the location.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed details of the operation in a report shared on his official X handle on Wednesday.
According to the report, the patrol was conducted at approximately 10:30 a.m. on June 14, 2026, after troops received credible intelligence regarding activities of suspected terrorists in the area.
Although the troops did not encounter the suspected criminals during the operation, they successfully identified and dismantled facilities believed to have been used as a hideout by the group.
Military sources said the operation led to the destruction of the suspected terrorists’ camp, including structures reportedly serving as logistics and administrative centres.
The sources added that the mission was executed successfully without casualties or any security breach.
The destruction of the hideout is expected to disrupt the activities of criminal elements operating within the area and limit their ability to regroup or launch attacks.
The Borgu axis has remained one of the strategic areas under close military surveillance due to concerns over the movement of armed groups and other criminal elements across forested communities.
Security agencies have continued to intensify operations across parts of Niger State and neighbouring areas as part of ongoing efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime.
Military authorities said troops would sustain aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying criminal groups freedom of movement and operational space.
The report noted that follow-up operations are already underway to dominate the general area and prevent terrorists from re-establishing bases within the affected communities.
The latest operation forms part of broader security efforts designed to strengthen stability in vulnerable locations and improve safety for residents across Niger State and surrounding regions.
