Troops Repel Terrorist Attacks in Zamfara, Recover Arms, Ammunition and Motorcycles
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma repelled separate terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, killing a suspect and recovering rifles, ammunition, cutlasses and motorcycles during operations in Maru and Kaura Namoda LGAs.
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully repelled separate terrorist attacks in Zamfara State, neutralising suspected attackers and recovering weapons, ammunition and other items during coordinated operations in Maru and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.
Military sources confirmed that the operations were conducted on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of armed groups within the affected communities.
In the first incident in Kanoma District of Maru LGA, troops responded swiftly to reports of terrorist activity and advanced to Kanoma Hill, where they engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle.
During the encounter, one suspected terrorist was killed, while others fled with injuries after being overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower.
Following the operation, security forces recovered a rifle loaded with ammunition as well as two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation in Kaura Namoda LGA, troops acted on intelligence indicating that armed men were attacking residents of Kungurki Village and attempting to abduct civilians.
The soldiers were quickly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers upon arrival, disrupting the operation and forcing the criminals to retreat.
A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated rifle, three rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, four cutlasses and a mobile phone suspected to have been abandoned by the fleeing attackers.
Military authorities said the successful operations demonstrate ongoing efforts under Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantle terrorist networks, protect vulnerable communities and restrict the freedom of movement of criminal elements across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
They also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could assist in preventing further attacks and improving response operations.
