Tinubu Congratulates Oyebanji on Re-Election Victory, Hails Peaceful Ekiti Poll

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s confidence in his administration and leadership.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.

The President also praised security agencies for maintaining law and order before, during and after the election, noting that their professionalism contributed significantly to the peaceful conduct of the poll.

Tinubu further lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for overseeing the election and encouraged the commission to continue strengthening electoral processes ahead of future polls, including the Osun State governorship election and the 2027 general elections.

“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the statement said.

The President noted that the governor’s performance during his first term earned him the confidence of voters across the state.

According to Tinubu, Oyebanji recorded notable achievements in infrastructure development, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, employment creation and rural development under his administration’s development agenda.

He said the renewed mandate given to the governor by the electorate represented a clear endorsement of continuity, stability and people-focused governance.

The President urged Oyebanji to remain committed to inclusive leadership by carrying all stakeholders along in the next phase of governance.

He advised the governor to be magnanimous in victory and continue building on the gains already recorded for the benefit of the people of Ekiti State.

Tinubu also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, describing their involvement as an important contribution to the democratic process.

He called on them to work together with the governor in advancing the development of the state.

Governor Oyebanji secured re-election after polling 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more development projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda and prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for the governor.
